A summer roadtrip to Rauhalahti

One of the best ways to get to know Finland is by exploring the country on a summer road trip. Whether you choose to go north-south or east-west one thing is for sure – when you reach Kuopio-Tahko you will be amazed.

The home of a thousand lakes, there are thousands of adventures to be had. And one that you simply cannot miss is Rauhalahti Holiday Centre.

Located on the shores of Lake Kallavesi, just six kilometres from the centre of Kuopio, Rauhalahti attracts locals and tourists alike.

Although the beautiful natural surroundings are perfect for relaxing, there’s more to Rauhalahti than meets the eye. Morning, afternoon or evening, Rauhalahti is a place where it is impossible to be bored.

A five star camping experience

Perhaps the idea of camping leads to a vision of grey nomads parked row after row in their motorhomes and caravans? Not here. Because this is no ordinary campsite.

Rauhalahti puts experience and nature first, offering you all the serenities of the outdoors, with the luxury and convenience of every service imaginable.

The campsite has 67 summer cottages, 20 year-round holiday villas, 237 RV and 10 RV pitches, a large tent area, a summer restaurant, and a shop.

You’ll also discover beaches, playgrounds, a summer theatre, bowling and tennis halls, a spa, a zoo, a riding stable, a frisbee golf course, live music and dancing, and a 60-person smoke sauna. You can even rent outdoor equipment such as kayaks and bikes, giving you everything you need to enjoy the area.

Special features of Rauhalahti

The invention of Gargle

Developed in 2006, gargling is a new sport played with wooden balls and street brushes. The sixth World Championships of the sport will be held at Spa Hotel Rauhalahti in the summer of 2020. Why not give the sport a try while you’re visiting?

Finland’s largest smoke sauna

The traditional smoke sauna in Jätkänkämppä, which can be found in Rauhalahti, has had 108 people in it at the same time, making it the largest smoke sauna in Finland. Experience the tradition and enjoy this unique Finnish experience.

Accommodation for all travellers’ tastes

In addition to the camping cottages and tent and motorhome pitches, the Rauhalahti Spa Hotel offers comfort and style. There are also apartment-style hotels available comprising five houses with their own entrances.

A unique and important history

Rauhalahti has a history as fascinating as the nature that surrounds it. In the area, you will discover a mansion built by Finnish commander Karl Leonhard (Ukko) Lode’s daughter, which is open to the public.

Travelling to and around Rauhalahti

If your summer road trip runs along Finland’s second longest highway, or national road 5, when you arrive at the North Savo, you will begin to see the beauty of Finnish Lakeland and the bustling life of Kuopio city.

In Kuopio, national road 5 turns into a motorway which crosses the city. Just six kilometres further is Rauhalahti.

It’s easy to reach Rauhalahti by car or boat and there are also public buses and ships. Alternatively, you can rent a Vilkku City bike

Being so close to Kuopio makes it easy to enjoy everything that both areas have to offer. In fact, we’re confident you’ll never run out of things to see and do.
