The ice skating season of the lake Kallavesi will start on the 1st of February 2020. The opened tracks will be 1km, 2km and 4km long.
The skaters should notice that even though the 4km long track will be opened, it is not safe to go under the bridge of Rönö quite yet. The track will be maintained throughout the winter and as the ice gets stronger, longer tracks will be opened. Use only marked skating sites!
M/S Queen R Winter Cafe and equipment rental are located in the passenger harbor of Kuopio, right next to the ice skating track. Equipment rental and Winter Cafe are open daily 10-16, throughout the ice skating season. Kuopio passenger harbor is only 1 km away from the Kuopio city center.
Ice skating is one of the most popular winter activities in Kuopio and using the ice skating track is free for everyone. You can take your own skates with you or rent the equipment from the rental. Also skating with a baby carriage is popular! There is also a nice campfire near the Kallavesi skating rink, right next to the harbor so you can bring your own picnic lunch with you.
Finland Ice Marathon will be held on 19th to 22th of February on the natural ice skating tracks of Kallavesi. Finland Ice Marathon will limit the use of the track, but otherwise the whole Ice Marathon track is free for all citizens and tourists.
