Saana of Kuopio

Saana of Kuopio is the hottest place to visit during this summer. Saana was opened in May and it combines Finnish sauna experiences, excellent restaurant services as well events and activities in one location. Saanas spa has a 30-seat mixed-gender sauna, an indoor hot tub, two waterfall showers, an experience showers and heated loungers. The outdoor area of the spa has a smoke sauna and two heated pools. You can get to Saana by Vilkku electric bike which you can rent from some of the many spots around the city.

Satoa is a street food festival held in a beautiful Kuopio city centre, where you can buy small dishes (approximate price 3-6 euros per portion). Satoa Kuopio Food Festival celebrates the traditional harvest season and local tastes. The festival will see the harmonious union of restaurants, food companies, artists and the people of North Savo creating a sensory delight. Beside the delicious food, performances by street musicians and artists can be enjoyed at the festival area free of cost.

Matkus Shopping Center

Matkus is a convenient and family-friendly shopping center situated on the south part of Kuopio. The wide range of shops and IKEA department store attracts customers from troughout eastern and central Finland. Matkus has cheerful and colourful play areas for children and a family room. Puijo Tower

The Puijo hill and its tower is a symbol of Kuopio. Puijo Tower is a distinctive landmark that you can see from far away when arriving to Kuopio. Puijo Tower is located only a few kilometers from the famous market place and it offers a wide and beautiful view over the lake scenery and the city. Nowadays, over 80 000 tourists come to see Puijo and the surrounding scenery every year.

Puijo also offers nature trails and exercising tracks, frisbee golf courses and marked tracks for mountain biking. There are many signed paths and trails on Puijo ridge. You can learn about the area’s natural environment on three nature trails, each a couple of kilometers long. In the north part of Puijo, Julkulanmäki, is located a campfire place where you can bring your own picnic lunch. You can also pick berries and mushrooms in the Puijo area.

Old Kuopio Museum consists of a block of eleven wooden houses. The oldest houses on the block are from the late 1700s and the youngest from the late 1800s. Interiors of the buildings represent living condition and living styles of different families from the 1800s to 1930s. There is also a pharmacy house, an exhibition hall and a room dedicated to the renowned local author Minna Canth.

International Grand Market will be held on Thursday to Sunday 15th-18th of August in a Kuopio market square. The idea of International Grand Market is to bring various products from across the globe, sold by their original manufacturers in the same marketplace. Most of the products are produced by small organisations such as family businesses, farms or small factories where traditional methods are used. The famous market hall of Kuopio is also located on the market square and it is an excellent place to buy local specialities and beautiful handicrafts.
