The Kuopio Dance Festival 2017 will offer dance treats in the Gala as well. The program will include an excerpt from a top South African piece, fresh dancers from Italy, celebrity dance teachers from TV-show, the Artistic Director’s creations, and a ballet star couple from Estonia.
The prima ballerina of the Estonian National Ballet, Alena Shkatula, will be starring in the Gala, partnered by the principal dancer Denis Klimuk. They will perform a classic pas de deux of Sleeping Beauty and a neoclassical duet Silent Monologues to Arvo Pärt’s music.
A young dancer of the Finnish National Ballet, Atte Kilpinen, takes on a big responsibility when he interprets the solo of Jorma Uotinen’s Ballet Pathétique.
The professional Dancesport couple, Sami and Jutta Helenius, will be dancing a tango and a piece called Viva Evita. The couple is well-known to the public as star teachers in the Finnish Strictly Come Dancing, Tanssii tähtien kanssa.
Valerio De Vita and Emiliano Perazzini will appear in the Gala with their contemporary piece ScontrINcontri. This piece earned them the runners-up slot in the Premio Roma Danza 2015 choreography competition. The choreography was conceived by De Vita. “Last year, we brought the winner of the same competition, Xie Xin, to the Gala and she enchanted the audience. However, this piece by the Italians is very different, but it continues on the same winning track”, comments Jorma Uotinen, Artistic Director of the festival.
Street dance will be introduced to the Gala by the Spanish company Iron Skulls, who combine hip hop, acrobatics and contemporary dance, in their apocalyptic piece Sinestesia. The other group number of the evening will be an excerpt from the top South African choreographer, Dada Masilo’s latest version of the ballet Giselle. The whole ballet will be shown in the last two days of the Festival.
The Gala, presented by Jorma Uotinen, will take place on 17. and 18.6.2017 at 18:00 Kuopio Music Centre.
